Kombynat Robotron – Dickfehler Studio Treffen I (2020)

“Kombynat Robotron is a four-piece, heavy freak-out, Krautrock Band hailing from Kiel, Germany. All four band members play in other bands and met for a jam in April 2018. After that they decided to form a band but to just keep on jamming instead of writing songs. In June of that year the band recorded several sessions that were released under the names Modul 12 and Modul 13 on tape and via Bandcamp. Their ‘Robotronic’ music features a wide range of influences due to the different sonic backgrounds of the band members; Krautrock-grooves that smoothly evolve from outer-space spheres into psychedelic and stoner-rock vibes and back to Krautrock.”

Møster! – Dust Breathing (2020)

“The band has been growing or cultivating a certain sound over the years, and I feel this has found its best form so far on ‘Dust Breathing’. This album sort of mirrors ‘States of Mind’, where I wanted to make the band into more of a collaborative group, and to step down from the bandleader role. The members have such strong musical personalities that the only way I had of getting that out of them was to open the gates and just record for days. We did some collaborative songwriting and lots of free improvisations, with the composition done in the post production, editing and mixing process. On ‘Dust Breathing’ I have tried to distil the type of music we created together on ‘States of Mind’, carefully keeping in mind the balance between composing/pre-directing/controlling and letting all band members act as equal contributors.”

Krokofant – Q (2019)

“Norwegian trio Krokofant plays energetic and explosive jazz rock that is both free and structured.
Krokofant consists of Tom Hasslan (guitar), Jørgen Mathisen (saxophone) and Axel Skalstad (drums). They are heavily rooted in the 1970 jazz rock sound, with strong references to King Crimson, early Mahavishnu, John Zorn and Peter Brötzmann. An expression that hits both rock audiences and freejazzers. With a drummer sounding like a turbocharged hybrid of Keith Moon and Elvin Jones, Krokofant plays precise and heavy riffs that are redeemed by jarring and strong improvisations. Long, wild saxophone solos are matched by extremely creative, virtuoso guitar playing, without compromising on interaction and groove.”

Population II – Population II (2017)

“Introducing Population II-blazing through the stratosphere, boiling up from beneath the sea, hanging in the air like smoke… These elemental tunes drift and fluctuate, at one with the air, over extreme heat. Population II has beamed out of Quebec with a mind-melting debut [À La Ô Terre] of hard psych, freckled with punk sentiment. Both old school and timeless, these young humans rip. They are impressive in their live actions and this album captures this raw energy on wax. Produced by Manu from the great band Chocolat, a very high bar has been set, indeed. Fluid, tough, and over-saturated, this album is bound to please fans of the label and new-comers alike. Reminiscent of Amon Düül, early Pink Floyd, Kollektiv, Laurence Vanay, Les Olivensteins, early Kraftwerk, even a touch of the Kinks.”

10 Years

Today marks a very special day for this place. 10 years ago on January 7 I submitted my first post dedicated to Earthless. This is not a coincidence because they were the band that introduced me to the world of psychedelic jamming and embarked me on the journey of discovering similar music, music that I’m still fascinated with 10 years later. Thanks for staying with Trippy Jam for so long and hoping to see you for even longer. Cheers!

Ellis Munk Ensemble – San Diego Sessions (2020)

“Fueled by the furious drumming of Paul Marrone, and led by Jonas Munk’s fuzzy lead guitar and the multicolored keys of Brian Ellis, there’s an unmoored, floating quality to the music the large ensemble was creating at these sessions… The closest references would be Miles Davis circa Bitches Brew, Hendrix at Woodstock, or perhaps Can at their most blazing and levitational. The music flows like an electric river of vintage keys, percussion and fuzz guitars. And it’s glowing with life… For fans of Causa Sui, Earthless and Psicomagia this set is not to be missed!”

Atlanta – Nugrybauti (2020)

“ATLANTA is an instrumental jamband from the Netherlands consisting of drummer Bob Hogenelst (Birth Of Joy/Molasses), bassguitarist Sebas van Olst (Typhoon/Cool Genius) and guitarist Pieter Holkenborg (Automatic Sam/Ten East). The members share their love for 60’s psychedelic rock, early 70’s free form jazz, 80’s punkrock and contemporary experimental bands in their spontaneous improvisations.”
