“SPOOK – Dutch for GHOST – is a brand new trio by Simon Segers (De Beren Gieren, Black Flower) on drums, Nicolas Rombouts (Ottla, Dez Mona) on double bass and Filip Wauters (The Wodads, BackBack) on pedal steel and guitar. What started in the summer of 2019 as a one-off meeting has now grown into a fully-fledged collective that breaks the boundaries between improv and composition with intense interplay and sparse themes. The prominent presence of the pedal steel gives SPOOK an allure of “free country” or “post western”. Add some pulsating progrock rhythms and the free spirit and virtuosity of jazz and you capture the unique sound of SPOOK.”
Korb & EHAA – From the Mountains to the Oceans (2022)
“‘From the Mountains to the Oceans’ is the culmination of collaborative experimental transatlantic jams between Korb and El Hombre Al Agua. From minimal atmospheric ambience to all out psych rock the album combines a range of analogue synths, electric and acoustic guitars, organ, bass, drums and percussion to create cosmic journeys that evoke evolution and ancient landscapes, the alchemy of elements and timeless tectonics.”
Dead Meadow – Force Form Free (2022)
“Force Form Free is spacey and dreamy at times, grimly propulsive at others, and captures Dead Meadow continuing their effortless exploration of the transporting, astral-gazing form they’ve spent their entire existence pushing forward.”
Domadora – Renaissance (2022)
“Renaissance is a 40-minute stoner heavy psyche experience testimony to what makes the identity of Domadora: their organic way of making and playing music. There is no preparation, no Intro, and no Outro. There are no restraints, there is just pure music expressed through vibrations, strong or soft ones; Our current emotions are the only thing that leads us.”
Kanaan – Diversions Vol. 1: Softly Through Sunshine (2022)
“Minimalism, contemporary psychedelia and ecstatic acid jams is what constitutes the musical landscape which Kanaan and Håvard are voyaging through. Ersland contributes with otherworldly synthesizers, acoustic piano and his signature cranked Hammond organ. Diversions Vol. 1: Softly Through Sunshine documents spontaneity and fertile creativity in a meeting between an open minded, cutting edge and explosive rock band and one of Norway’s most interesting keyboard players.”
Acid Rooster – Ad Astra (2022)
“Ad Astra was recorded live in july 2020 in Acid Roosters private garden with a field recorder in front of a small audience of friends during the lockdown in the middle of the corona pandemic. The two long jams were the opening an the closing track of a completely improvised concert and are a spontanious snapshot of ACID ROOSTERS approach of free floating psychedelic music.”
Action & Tension & Space – Tellus (2022)
“The band describe themselves as a spaced out, instrumental loungerock outfit, with added vibes of folk music, jazzy surf, psychedelia, free improvised chill-out, jangly post-rock and travelling bass. Not much for us to add here, apart from possibly a pinch of krautrock. “Tellus” is the quartet’s fourth album, and their debut on Rune Grammofon… With “Tellus” ATS heads into the Hardangervidda (the big plains connecting the eastern and western parts of southern Norway) terrain of wide open spaces, spare vegetation and unruly weather conditions, especially during the winter. The album was recorded in a small studio in Haugesund during two days of heavy rain showers and stormy winds rumbling outside the windows.”
Dhidalah – Sensoria (2022)
“A space rock rollercoaster this one, a fuzzy and motorik cloud of psych rock jams. This does that outer-body thing that big krautrock and psychedelic rock jams with a heavy pounding thunder can do, in that you end up in the song’s world and feel fully enveloped by it. For those who dig: Kikagaku Moyo, Oh Sees, Slift, Hills, Minami Deutsch, Acid Rooster, Föllakzoid…”
Edena Gardens – Edena Gardens (2022)
“Whereas Causa Sui & Papir have always excelled at blistering panoramic and often sundrenched sounds, Edena Gardens take a dive inwards and downwards rather than outwards. But there’s also an electrically charged extatic rawness to the dealings. Like Æther, the 10 minute opener’s 2 guitars-and-a-drum kit improv, finding it’s way from tumbling drones into monolithic slow riffage. Elsewhere, we find trails of electronic vapors, misfiring bursts of noise and slow drones stretched out. Edena Gardens is a thing to be experienced first hand – it’s not for everyone, but those who decide to stay are greatly rewarded. It’s a debut unlike any other record on El Paraiso, perhaps unlike any you’ve ever heard. Welcome to Edena Gardens.”
Guranfoe – Gumbo Gumbo (2022)
“Guranfoe is a four-piece rock band from Norwich, England whose music forges psychedelia, and prog intricacy. These styles combine with years of cohesive group playing to produce a live show defined by medleys of prog compositions and extended improvisation.”
