Groovy jam sessions recorded at The Matrix club by members of Grateful Dead (Jerry Garcia), Jefferson Airplane (Jack Casady, Jorma Kaukonen, Papa John Creach) and Quicksilver Messenger Service (David Freiberg, John Cipollina, Nicky Hopkins).
Stepping Out – Another Concert Somewhere (2007)
Psychedelic jams by Danish blues rock band Stepping Out recorded live all over Denmark in 1969-70.
Karmic Society – Journey (2007)
“Founded 2005 in Heidelberg/Germany KARMIC SOCIETY has developed a significant handmade style in the meantime combining elements of westcoast psych/jam bands, kraut and jazz rock… Recommended to sophisticated psych/fusion/jam listeners.”
Drahk Von Trip – Drahkish Waters (2007)
“DRAHK VON TRIP is a six piece band from Malmö, Sweden, performing progressive psychedelic acid rock. This is strongly influenced by 70’s prog and spacerock with female vocals, featuring ethnic sounds, blended with expressive lyrics. The music and lyrics create various moods and a suggestive feeling, often built up through a soft and floating shape into an intensely wild and chaotic state. The process of creating the music together starts with free form jams.”
Lunar Dunes – From Above (2007)
“They’ve obviously digested everything from Parliament & Funkadelic to Black Sabbath and the entire output of Can and Neu!, but what they’ve managed to do is take all of that, mix it together and cook up the best tasting jam sandwich you’ve had in years. Guys, this is one hell of a trip.”
Øresund Space Collective – The Black Tomato (2007)
“The Øresund Space Collective (OSC) had their first jamsession in April 2004, encouraged by longtime spacerock-fanatic Scott Heller; aka Dr. Space. The collective is a group of Danish, Swedish and American musicians that get together as often as possible for free form improvised cosmic music. The flavour of the music is different with each session. The stretched out jams can often combine complex interplay between guitar and synthesizer as well intense drumming and bass playing. Sometimes chaotic, sometimes melodic but most of the time funky and cosmic! We enter into the genre of funk, jazz, reggae, kraut, stoner, folk, world, electronica and space rock ( and probably some others) as we improvise our way along. The jam sessions alternate between Malmö and København across the Øresund bridge, which connects Denmark & Sweden.”
Vert:x – A.F.M.O.M.A.H.E. (2007)
“Collosal slabs of kraut-infused mono-chord space rock with heavily distorted and phased guitars, psych-glissando solos and deep delay theremin oscillations.”
Tribe Of Cro – Virtual Vinyl (2007)
“TRIBE OF CRO formed in the mid 1990s consisting of Belgian and British members. They are pioneers of instrumental jamming space rock music with an experimental attitude when working in lots of tricky electronics as well as stoner and krautrock elements here and there. The use of dual guitars all over is caring for a lush sound… Every live performance differs which confirms the joy of improvisation.”
Orange Shading Starlight – Orange Shading Starlight (2007)
“ORANGE SHADING STARLIGHT, as the first WICKED MINDS’ official side project, shined on the Italian musical scene for a short period. The early members of WICKED MINDS – Lucio CALEGARI (guitar), Paolo Apollo NEGRI (synthesizers, keyboards), Enrico GARILLI (bass), and Andrea CONCAROTTI (drums) – showed free instrumental jam expression with deep, heavy psychedelia upon their eponymous album released via an Italian independent label W-Records in 2007.”
Zodiacs – Gone (2007)
“Full of l-o-n-g jams that bring to mind such wild ones as German Oak, Magic Muscle and foggy dreams of The Stooges moonlighting as a Hawkwind tribute band during the off season. Zodiacs burn a heavy trail to the days when outlaw biker clubs roasted and consumed whole horses in celebration of the wild life.”
