What a ‘split’!
Giöbia drop 3 very distinct tracks, seemingly decelerating to the end of their half. ‘Canyon Moon’ is all engines-to-warp space rock, tearing along at lightspeed, echoing off the far reaches. ‘Julia Dream’ slows down considerably, with a strummed guitar intro dropping out of orbit into dub, underlit by organ & dreamy 2-channel vocals. Then ‘Meshes Of The Afternoon’: a sedate experiment in keyboard drone, with distant percussion and deep, distorted vocals. This slowdown greets The Cosmic Dead flawlessly, as they reignite the thrusters and cross this psych-rock nebula in one shot, with power and finesse. Monumental deep space guitar from TCD, kept in time by driving drums & bass. Two fascinating trips, there and back in less than 45 minutes.
